Big Bad Bruce’s Fight against Diabetes

Update posted by Maria Coetsee

Bruce Snyman (50) well known in the Africa Wrestling Federation (now called Africa Wrestling Alliance AWA), was a legend on his day and wrestled professionally under the name Big Bag Bruce from 1991 to 2004. Before that, he was an amateur wrestler for 21 years and acquired Springbok colours, in 1987, in the army.

The highlight of his wrestling career was in 2004 when he won against the African warrior on national South African TV. The match can be seen on YouTube.

Other than wrestling he starred in 150 international adverts, 3 national ads in South Africa and in the movie Diamond Hunters with Will Smith.

Sadly his life changed at the age of 35 when he was diagnosed with Diabetes.

Since 2011 he has had 21 operations and by 2018 lost both his legs.

Today he wants to spread awareness about diabetes and with the help of Brian Mitchell (World Champion Boxer) open a boxing and wrestling club in his hometown, Oudtshoorn.

Bruce’s sister, Gerda Tait is currently looking after him but she needs help. That is why we are here to ask for your help.

Help Us Help Bruce and many others like him!

Thank You for taking the time to read Bruce’s story.
