After the 6th cycle

Update posted by Clarice Fritz Caliwatan Canonigo

Nadir. In cancer treatment, commonly refers to the lowest point that an individual's blood cell count will reach as a side effect of chemotherapy. We usually get past this after 21 days for each cycle. For this 6th cycle, Drew’s white blood count is inching is way up with the Filgrastim injections but his red blood cells and platelets are still way low. We transfused a bag of platelets but today the counts are still low. We need to transfuse a bag of red blood cells and possibly 2nd bag of platelet. Drew’s tears fell thinking of another round of transfusion and I had to fight back my own tears. We’ve come this far, 6 out of 8 cycle and we are thankful for this grace. I’ve heard of some patients who didn’t even get to this point. He came back alive from infections and liver almost failing so we can’t back down now. We will push on to finish the 8 cycles of intense chemo, get him to consolidation and maintenance phase until we are able to get him the bone marrow transplant.
