July 27, 2018 Update

Update posted by Jenny Ishii

I have been working really hard to improve my nutrition and strengthen my leg muscles to be ready for a kidney transplant. I am currently gaining time on the transplant list, but listed as inactive because my overall health is not strong enough to undergo a transplant. Two markers that I have been working on are my albumin level, which is a measure of protein in the blood and my weight, which needs to increase to 47kg. I got lab work done yesterday and my protein albumin level is up to 3.7 (4.0 is needed for transplant) and my dry weight is 45.4 (47 is needed for transplant). For the longest time, I couldn't break an albumin level of 2.9 so I was ecstatic yesterday to find out that I'm up to 3.7! I'm so close now. I think I can hit 4.0 in 2 to 3 more weeks. I expect that my weight will go up as I work on getting my albumin up. Even though I am so close to being ready, I am still in need of a kidney donor. All of the people in my family willing to donate have been evaluated and either (1) wasn't healthy enough to donate or (2) wasn't a match for me so I am still in need of a kidney donor. If you or anyone you know would be willing to consider being a kidney donor, please reach out to me at [email protected].

I plan to undergo a kidney transplant at Mass General Hospital, a pioneer and leading transplant center. For more information, please visit https://www.massgeneral.org/transplant/services/ad...
