Miss Puravida

Update posted by Vanela Grace Torres

Recently, the resort just organized a pageant/ misogyny. I was representing the dive shop to win the crown. I was challenging since I was also busy doing my Dive Master Course. My time was divided by class and rehearsals, creating my costume themed Goddess of Nature, thinking of a talent and everyone was very excited for us, especially for me since im the first candidate representing Sea Explorers.

The day has come and everyone cheered for the girls. I've never thought that pageantry could be that exciting most especially presenting yourself to people. There was a question and answer portion and I was asked about my ambition "to have meaningful encounters to the planet and its people, then the host said elaborate " and I only answered a few because of the mixed feelings that im experiencing from getting excited and stage fright.

But if I have to answer it again, it would be:

" Meaningful encounters with the planet and its people, this is why Im here in Dauin, im working to be a great scuba instructor in order to teach not only the tourist but most especially the children and the locals. Philippines is a hot spot for tourism and educating them the importance of our ocean could change their minds with over fishing and irresponsible waste management. Im looking forward to divert their minds into protecting the environment while earning from tourism. People come here from all parts of the world because they know that we have the finest beaches, diverse seas and warm hospitable people." :)

As the event ended, I was awarded as Darling of the Crowd (thanks to my fellow divers who screamed their lungs out that gave me the confidence and energy) and Miss Photogenic. (Well, I don't usually wear make up in the office, that might been the trick)
