Now or Never!

Update posted by Nayana Morag

OK! The final count down is here. It's now or never! The letter of notification of sale has arrived and we have a deadline and a definite sale price and the name of the buyer. Unfortunately, the delivery of the letter has been cleverly timed so we have only 2 working days to have the money in our hands and stop this sale going through.

The good news is the price is €135,000, a little less than we had heard. The bad news is I have looked up the purchaser and it is indeed a company involved in forestry plantations. An individual who has been buying up 1,000s of hectares of land around here over the last year.

So, we are out of time, and any optimistic dream thats the new neighbour may be an eco-warrior are dead! We need to act now to save this land from big business and profiteering. It is immoral that some wealthy person, hiding behind a network of companies, should buy up thousands of hectares in this poor corner of one of the poorest regions in Western Europe.

What sort of culture do we live in that thinks this sort of behaviour is normal and acceptable? Why are the local shepherds denied the right to graze this unused land in time of drought? Just because one man wants more than he can possibly need?

Here, you have one small chance to stand against everything this land-grab stands for. To liberate the land from exploitation. But we need the money by December 20th at 12.45.

We have done really well to have raised €50,000 . But we are still short €85,000! Also, some of the money pledged may not be in our bank account in time as it is coming from outside Europe. What we really need right now is someone who can give us a short term loan for the whole amount of €135,000. Most of which can be paid back within 2 weeks.

If you can help, please act now! By the end of the weekend I need to be able to say STOP THE SALE!

And I don't ask you to give something for nothing. Apart from stopping big business over-populating the planet with harmful monoculture forestry plantations and wiping out millions of species of plants and insects, your money could give you,

1. €90,000 = 400 square metres of buildings that you can renovate as you like and use as a home, holiday lets or retreat centre

2. €20,000 = either a small ruin to rebuild on, or lifetime access to our camp, to stay and play whenever you like. So you always have a peaceful eco-refuge where you can rest and regenerate.

3. For €1,000 you get a week nourishing retreat for 2 people here at Over the Edge

4. Or €500 gets a long weekend for 2 at Over the Edge.

And anything you give however big or small, is a huge boost of energy. Just knowing that you care is precious.
