15 days ago we evacuated our farm due to the wildfires raging through Portugal and lost Jessica our beautiful cat. Her cat carriers door opened as she was being moved to a safe space on the other side of the village. The sound and the heat of the fire was huge and she ran with fear into the old peoples home and from there into a field. It was a safe space. There was no time to look for her, more of our animals needed evacuating from our farm. I went back the next day and every day after that looking for her, calling her name, I was talking to her with my mind and I could feel her in my heart so I knew she was not dead. The images she showed me and others that helped, were so typical to where we live, but still I searched for every new image she showed us. We lost her 1.4 km from our farm. Much of the land between had been burnt and she had 2 streams/rivers to cross to get home.

What made me so sad about this incident is it was like history repeating itself for Jessica. Just over 2 years ago Adam and I were driving along a quiet country lane, when the car in front of us threw Jessie out of the window. I jumped out of the car and grabbed Jessie and Adam chased the car. But they didn't stop. I was worried Jessie might feel like we threw her away too.

This morning I opened the door to let out the dogs and let in our other cats and guess who was in line.......Jessie! With a little mew and her tail stroking my leg, just like normal. I thought I was dreaming.

A lightness has come to both Adam and I, seeing her eat, drink and now curl up on the bed and rest is pure bliss. Our little Jessie Messy Face is home.
