Monkey had surgery on Tuesday to repair the extensive damage to his hard palate, lip and jaw. There was already a hefty infection started so the surgeon had to remove the infected tissue. We brought him home on some potent painkillers so he was supwr loopy and almost his usual snuggly self.

He was prescribed a special high-calorie, recovery diet of a fancy canned food. Monkey, being a stubborn little beastie, will have nothing to do with it. We also tried all sorts of other "gravies", canned food and plain eggs to no avail. The only thing that has even tempted him has been his regular, plain, dry kibble which, of course, hurts his mouth. He's also still not drinking water. If he doesn't start today, tomorrow at his follow-up the vet said he will have to be given a feeding tube. With the apocalyptic rainfall we are expecting thanks to Hurricane Harvey, that is not ideal.

Hopefully, he will let me give him his pain medicine and will eat and drink before then.
