Tula is home at the barn!

Update posted by Ann Turri

After three days at the emergency vet clinic, Tula was released (August 21st) to return home to the barn. She was exhausted and weak but stable. We left the veterinarian with several unanswered questions, but he was quite confident of his diagnosis... anaplasmosis and/or piroplasmosis, tick borne diseases that can cause anemia, lethargy, weight loss, and a declining state.

Tula was discharged with an IV catheter, so we could administered her final three IV antibiotic treatments (total of 5); she handled them beautifully.

Yesterday, for the first time in a while, she seemed more energetic, spirited, bright and alert. Her appetite is back, and we will now focus on increasing her weight, energy, and overall wellness (with good nutrition, immune, liver and digestive support).

All of us at West Coast Ecuestre are beyond grateful for the team of healers and community that rallied together to save this precious mare. THANK YOU for your generous donations, good vibes, healing thoughts, prayers and love. And please consider sharing Tula's story and/or donating to her vet expenses and continued care, as she will need follow-up blood work, vet visits, and supportive supplements.
