My story

Update posted by Emma Mahumane

This is my story.

I'm Emma Mahumane, 18 years old and I live in Cape Town. The reason I've started a fundraiser is to get financial assistance on my dreams and aspirations: my studies. I'm passionate about my community and would like to use it to impact it positively. I am a full-time volunteer at the Hillsong Africa Foundation in Cape Town which is a non-profit organization and a branch from the Hillsong International Church. They focus significantly on community outreach programs in Cape Town and are involved in many community projects including feeding programs, orphan care, women’s shelters, disaster relief, wheelchair distribution, substance abuse programs, job skills training centers, prison programs, and the Tembaletu School.

The outreaches that I take part in specifically is - KidsClub at tembalethu school in Gugulethu , as well as youth and an after school program for the Hillsong house and Shine girls in tafelsig . I've given all my time to participate in these programs because I know the need that these kids have and me just being there to help them and to motivate them is just an absolute blessing .

Being apart of this program has made me realize what it is that I am really passionate about in life - helping people that are in affliction and especially those that in desperate need . Especially children that are need of help.

I grew up in a community so what's happening in it is very apparent and the need for help is very urgent. I've always enjoyed helping people and being apart of HAF has allowed me to gain even more insight of its everyday life .

As I was searching online. I came across this campaign called YWAM (Youth With A Mission ) which is a global movement of Christians from many cultures, age groups, and Christian traditions, dedicated to serving Jesus throughout the world. Also known as YWAM (pronounced “WHY-wham”), we unite in a common purpose to know God and to make Him known. Being apart of this program will equip me to do what is needed in the community . I'll attain so much knowledge from this. Especially from the outreach phase which is when one goes to a indignant area in any area and I'll also be able to immerse myself into the local culture, strengthen my spiritual bond with God, and be part of an overall great community outreach organization. And be the hope that the people in my community needs. Because I believe that it starts with one person and I'd like to take that brave step to show my community that there is hope out there .

With the money that I'll raise from gogetfunding . I'll be able to pay for my tuition fee for YWAM and do the entire program. Thereafter I'll graduate and come back to my community and use all the information that I've attained to impact the community/communities in cape town . I've got a big vision for change that needs to take place. To better the world that we live in and I believe that , that change will come by the small changes that we take in our everyday lives.
