The Fated Day: I got my diagnosis!!! Plus, reward news

Update posted by AB Silvera

Friends,

Today I saw the private specialist for ADHD. I had to, once more, fill in numerous long forms, get a close friend to fill in a form as well as my parents.

The assessment was in Springburn, a suburb of Glasgow just north of the City Centre. It was in an old building that felt like a hospital. It had those kind of old elevators where if you call one, the one available comes to you and you have to run across a big lobby to get to it.

The specialist was warm and funny, and the assessment sometimes devolved into conversation about television, gender identity, etc. We spoke at length about my life and my difficulties, I filled in another questionnaire, and did a couple of standard tests related to attention span, concentration, mind wandering etc.

As the title spoils the ending, here it is again: the specialist says he's quite certain I present with ADHD, and is recommending medication.

Of course, the road is not over yet. A history of minor heart problems in my family means he'd like me to get an ECG to check my heart function, as a precaution. After that, my GP has to accept the private diagnosis and prescribe, otherwise the medication is quite expensive.

The good news is I've started a new job, and I'm also currently doing 2 other jobs on top of that. That means this month is... heavy. I'm working 20 hours a week at a call centre, plus subtitling for a major local film festival and doing admin assistance for a friend. But I've not forgotten about the rewards! I've just been quite swamped, to be honest. I hope to start contacting donors and putting them in touch with rewards suppliers to redeem their rewards (or in some cases order specific stuff). So, donors: you have not been forgotten! I should be contacting you in the next 2 weeks or so.

Until then, thank you for all your support. Thank you for believing me. Thank you for believing in me. I had accumulated so much goddamn self-hate thinking I was just lazy and should get my shit together, constantly frustrated at how much I struggled. Now it looks like there's a solution. Plus I found a new flat to move into. Plus, I had a pizza crunch supper* for dinner. It was good.

*for non-scotland people: a pizza crunch is pizza deep fried in batter, a supper is when you get chips with your takeaway
