How the money will be spent

Update posted by Wendy Hanson

The facility above is called Jain Hospital and Nursing Home in a town called Pehowa and is where Mamta hopes to deliver her twins with the help of this campaign. It has a good reputation for safe births, while remaining less costly than bigger hospitals in larger towns.

In India, half of the estimated expenses for a birth are required by the hospital when the mother is admitted, and the remaining balance is expected once the mother is released from hospital. The final bill depends on the nature of the delivery and whether there are any complications which may involve more complex procedures or a longer hospital stay. We have learned that the average cost of delivering a single baby under normal circumstances at this hospital is 35,000 Indian Rupees, which is the equivalent of USD $550. But because Mamta is expecting twins, she will be charged double, which is a total of USD $1,100. We have set the fundraising target at USD $1,200 to allow for the extra money taken by payment processors, and GoGetFunding for hosting this page.

The hospital fee will cover all the costs associated with the care of Mamta and the twins during labor and delivery and for two nights' stay at the facility, which is the average length of time expectant mothers remain at the hospital.

We have been in touch with the hospital and trust that in the event that Mamta's hospital bill exceeds what is raised, the hospital will show us forbearance and give us a little extra time to raise whatever additional funds are needed. In the event that the money raised exceeds Mamta's bill, the extra money will go towards costs the family will incur for hospital check-ups that the twins will need in their first year.
