Double Bronze for Nyla at the 2017 Canada Summer Games

Update posted by Shawn Burgess

Nyla returned home from the Canada Summer Games with two bronze medals earning them in the team and individual portion of the competition.

As a result of losses to New Brunswick & British Columbia in the Team Dual portion, Nyla went on to initially wrestle for 5th place match the Individual tournament. During the medal matches of the individual tournament, we learned that Nyla would be upgraded to a bronze as a result of a rare double injury default.

Although Nyla could have simply accepted the upgraded result, she chose to vacate the result from her fifth place match and re-wrestler her opponent from Manitoba for the bronze medal and would accept whatever the outcome was.

Knowing that she had another shot at the podium, Nyla quickly took control from the whistle and was able to claim the bronze medal by pinning her opponent. Although this was not the result that she wanted, it was a great experience that she will continue to build upon.

We are extremely proud of her and her journey as this was an once in a lifetime opportunity to participate in the games.

Thank you to everyone for all your continued support!
