I learned a long time ago not to loose my grip on reality. And to still see that there was a life to be lived. Today I was reminded of that. Amid the madness of our situation and on the back of the bombshell that my husband had just dropped that we had to discuss the fact of the malignancy of the tumour and the risks of the operation which we both secretly were dealing with, each in our own way.

We were doing the weekends shopping and I was walking back to the car, my mind in a dwaal. Suddenly I hear this man singing 'sweet Caroline'. I look around for where the singing is coming from. There he is obviously waiting for his better half and singing in the middle of the passage. I walk past him and say 'How did you know my name is Caroline?' he smiles and says "Your favorite song too?"
