What can I Say...

Update posted by Irene Purcell

During our visit to the Brooke Army Medical Center today, Ethan’s doctor told him to not even think about going back to work for at least two more weeks, and maybe light duty the following week. Several of his wounds were re-assessed and downgraded to third degree burns and the nursing regime had a couple more unguents added, but there’s less bandaging. Several of the facial burns look almost healed, but some on the feet are really, really deep – meat deep. But through it all, as usual, Ethan has maintained his up-beat attitude, finding the joy where it waits for those who seek it; and passing over the dark recesses where pain and despair lurk.

We are pleased to note that that we are well over the half way mark of the self-set goal of $2,000, a goal that was pretty much pulled from air. We don’t know what is in store for the family in terms of cost, both material and physical, but we continue to move forward as we give heartfelt thanks to those of you who donated. AND, ALL of the calls, emails, texts and posts on FB are a great source of pleasure for Ethan as he lies on a mattress in the living room binging on LOST while 3 women tend to his every need and a clever young lad entertains him with magic tricks and stories.

All my best to my friends, my son’s friends, our family and the people who continue to touch us in so many ways and in so many places.

Pay It Forward.

Best,

Irene
