Children's House Update: March 2017

*What we do*

We have had a wonderfully successful few weeks at the CESRT Parents and Children's House. We continue to welcome families from both Souda and ViAL Refugee camps to enjoy the services that the Parents and Children's house has to offer. Over the last few weeks, the children who have visited the Children's House have had the opportunity to play in the calm and engaging environment as well as have a nice hot shower and receive a new outfit of clothing.

*What's been happening*

Thanks to the generous donations the children have had lots of fun creating beaded bracelets, which helps them to practise their fine motor skills and hand eye coordination, as well as use their creativity! They get to take home the beautiful beaded necklaces and bracelets they make while at the Children's House. Our visitors also continue to receive a nutrition and tasty food bag when they visit the centre, which includes fresh fruit and dairy products for their well being and development. These food items are purchased with the money from our generous donators.

*Highlights*

The highlight over the last week has been the introduction of our Children's House movie nights! This is a fun filled evening for the whole family, where parents and children can sit back, relax and enjoy watching a film. This last week we had 2 special premier movie nights where we showed Madagascar and Finding Nemo. Movie nights will now be held every Wednesday evening from 5pm to 6:30pm.

*Photography*

While wonderful things happen inside the Children's House, and smiling faces are everywhere to be seen, we respect our little visitors and do not take photographs of them as they play. We understand people love to see pictures of the children enjoying the facilities, however we all agree that children are our most precious gift. These lovely refugee children in particular are in a difficult situation and time their lives. Therefore we appreciate your understanding that our images do not include photos of the children.

*Volunteers*

In order for our CESRT Children's House to be such a success we need the help of our wonderful volunteers. We are currently looking for long term volunteers, who will stay on Chios for 2-3 weeks onwards, and who have a Police Check/ Working with Children's Check from their home country. We would love to have you on board to join our fun filled team!

*Donations*

Last but not least, we could not do all these wonderful things for our refugee children and families without the generous donations from our supporters. A project like the Children's House has many ongoing costs such as fresh food, children's clothing, water and heating, and we are so grateful for the ongoing financial support!
