Sky's first 17 days on earth.

Update posted by Joanne Sendon Palad

The first 17 days since Sky was born was spent in the hospital. This is the same hospital where she was born and thereby receiving treatments, having diagnosed with congenital heart defect and persistently low platelet count. Her doctors have explored all possibilities that may have caused it. Another round of tests was recommended to rule out Systemic Lupus Erythematosus.

Last night, Sky's vital signs went bad. Her heartbeat went down to 30 beats per minute, her platelet count to its lowest at 30,000. She seemed so weak.. It was scary. It was unbearable to see her tiny body almost lifeless. The doctor and nurse staff went frantic and immediately took proper action. She went through another round of tests and procedures to determine the cause of vital signs drop. She was given antibiotics upon doctor's order after the result of the CBC came out. Apparently she caught an infection. She was transfused another round of platelet concentrate to address her low platelet.

It was not easy for her parents and us, families, to see Sky in this condition. Please continue to pray for her so that she will regain her strength soon. Like us, her parents wanted so badly to take her home and cuddle her as normal parents would.
