END of campaign - Heartfelt thanks for your great support!

Update posted by Kartini Pouchous

Dear Friends,

Since I last wrote in October, I wish to give you one final update on the campaign that I launched in June 2016 to help ASTI taking care of Leony and Eva.

The campaign has now ended, but I am pleased to report that it has continued to receive generous support, including from the Belgian Embassy in Indonesia which has graciously donated Rp 35 million (USD 2,627) from the profits generated by its annual Best of Belgium bazaar held last November. In total, the campaign has raised USD 8,176.52, which represent a bit more than 60% of the campaign target. I cannot thank you enough for helping me bringing the campaign that far!

As for Leony and Eva, they are both doing well. They will be moving to Sumatra in the next few months to a new facility in which each of them will occupy a large (1 hectare) enclosure. It is anticipated that Leony will be ready to be released to the forest a year or so after moving to Sumatra. The large new rehabilitation enclosure on the ASTI site, finished a couple of months ago, will be used for a new tiger rescued from the Jakarta/West Java area. ASTI is also working on building a clinic for tigers injured in the wild by poachers. This clinic is being built in tiger habitat in Bengkulu Province, Sumatra, with funding support from the US Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS). A partnership agreement was signed recently between the Natural Resource Conservation Agency (BKSDA) of Bengkulu Province and ASTI. For more information on this project, please read: https://m.tempo.co/read/news/2017/01/31/061841490/bengkulu-akan-buka-klinik-pengobatan-harimau-sumatera

You can continue to follow Leony and Eva’s progress as well as ASTI’s other work on ASTI’s twitter page (@ASTIndonesia) and on Facebook (https://facebook.com/AnimalSanctuaryTrustIndonesia/) pending the re-launch of their website which was hacked late last year. You can also continue supporting them through their online funding campaign page: https://simplygiving.com/nonprofit/animalsanctuarytrustindonesia

Again, my heartfelt thanks to all of you who have contributed to this campaign and helped disseminating it! Allow me to also wish you all the very best for the year 2017 and Rooster Year! (better late than never!)
