Test-Driving iPad (Autism and Learning and Fun) apps

Update posted by Jonathan Dayrit

10 July 2016

Over the past weeks, and as part of preparing Benben for formal AAC speech augmentation using Proloquo2Go, we allowed Benben to spend 2 - 3 hours per day on the iPad. He got 're-acquianted' with his favorite iPad apps such as Temple Run 2, Shape Sorter, Injini Lite, Letter School, Pepi Play, Pink Fong songs and stories, and a few other kids' learning apps. We also oriented him on Phonemes - phonics by Lingraphica and gently introduced other free AAC tools just to get a sense of whether it would get his attention.

In the past years, Benben has been using the iPad, an android tablet and his mom's smartphone mostly to listen to music (his favorites include Build Me Up Buttercup and All About the Bass by the way) and watch short videos / cartoons. His use of these devices have now shifted to more interactive mode and we are really hoping he gets on board AAC quickly.

As part of the campaign / project, we created a simple Youtube channel to video document and show different stages of Benben's life. Here, we want to show his use of mobile devices for learning and for AAC among his other activities and interests (eating, swimming, eating again...).

Here is a video of Benben using Phonemes (phonics and lip reading) -

Since display of video is limited here in GoGetFunding site, we encourage you to check out Benben's Youtube channel and would greatly appreciate it if you will subscribe to it (it's free of course, and you get informed when new videos are uploaded or added if you subscribe to the channel).

We'll surely keep you informed and updated when and once there are videos available of Benben using the Proloquo2Go app for speech augmentation as well as other speech therapy sessions and whatever improvements he accomplishes in relation to speech and in other aspects of life as well.

Again, many many thanks to everyone of you who supported and continue to support this campaign. We have observed and continue to notice that Benben feels the love and attention and support from everyone (he has a very high comprehension skills).
