Booked!! Here's how things are looking.

Update posted by Cam Stocks

Well this is going well! I'm all booked and ready to go, thanks to all of you!

Here’s a quick update on the finances of the trip. Some things have worked out cheaper than expected, others more expensive. I've updated the campaign goal to reflect this, but overall (once you account for transaction fees), the initial estimates weren't far off.

Raised so far - £715 (some fees are skimmed off by paypal, etc. About 4%.)

Costs so far - £720

  • Flight - £530 (cost rose between setting up this page and when I was able to book)
  • Registration - £28 ($40 - the conference organisers very generously reduced this from $150!)
  • ESTA - £10 ($14)
  • Insurance - £152 (pre-existing medical conditions really hiked this up - down with private health insurance! NHS ftw.)
  • Hotel - I’m sharing, it’s still free!

Expected costs - £70

Taxis, airport food, local transport. This is very difficult to quantify but I’d guess around $10-$20 per day.

Nice-to-haves

Labor Notes produces some excellent practical guides that aren’t available in the UK. Any extra funds will be used to purchase copies for distribution to UK health workers.
