Job Role...

Update posted by SJ Rogers

Having planned to just drive the vans as needed I have instead found myself absorbed into the bosom of the Fabulous Food Sisters, or more formally - Tina's team of dry food distribution in Calais Kitchens!

Still driving vans, alongside making up packs to take food to the community kitchens, families, community leaders, enabling a more balanced and fair approach to food than merely line distributions and hot food. This means the residents can cook as they culturally prefer in large groups, families, small groups etc. and with preferred ingredients, as available. Diet and dignity.

We are currently sending out 7,300 portions of tinned veg/fish/pulses, salt, sugar, rice and onions a week as well as daily providing for the 4 kitchens providing hot food throughout the camp, each producing approximately 1,000 covers a time. Dunkerque has 200 individual packs sent each day also.

We have worked out that food costs around £1 per person per day, and that we are feeding at least 3,000 people. Each day.

Everything that we send out is donated. Either as the food itself or the money we can use to by the food.

We are not supported by any government grant, support, scheme, initiative... and we are the sole distributers of food in the camp. and we are not reaching everybody.

This is where your donations are going.

Thank you
