Final report - your money has changed lives!

Update posted by Neven Boyanov

Dear supporters of the Education for Nepal charity,

great news!!! The development in the Chuchepati camp has been amazing and big part of it – thanks to YOU! Now the last part of your donations has reached the people. Let me show you what your money has done! It´s time for a final report! Take 5 min of your time and read this! Do not miss the attached information, amazing video and links to the current status in the camp. One big “Thank you” to all of you!

As reported earlier, the Chuchepati camp is located on private land and the people were forced to be moved by force out of their new fragile homes. After half a year of discussions, it has been finally decided that the camp will stay on its location until the people can find a way to move out. During these months I kept constant contact with Swekshya Tamang, a Nepali teacher in the camp, and Alvaro, the leader of the NGO Hugging Nepal which takes care of the camp. In the last months, the Chuchepati camp and especially the school have been rebuilt and expanded so that more people can have a close-to-normal life and education. As reported by Swekshya, the credit goes mainly to Hugging Nepal and their constant effort to improve the living conditions in the camp. Here is the current status of the Chuchepati camp school. More detailed information in the report below.

  • More and more women are joining the English and literacy classes. The women are realizing the economical advantages that the language skills give them. Now the camp has three instead of one group of women studying
  • With more of the teacher´s and volunteer´s support and new materials, the children’s Afterschool program has expanded with more children joining. There, they get homework support and organized activities as classes, sports, reading, indoor games together with teachers and volunteers. The goal is to keep the children away from the street and make them appreciate the power of education
  • The Nepali teachers in both schools are surprised and motivated by the increased popularity of the school. Moreover, more volunteers join the school activities and support them.

All this happened with your money. And if you think that you donated just a little bit – you´d be surprised how much you can buy and do with 10€ in Nepal.

Read!: Part of the money you donated was kept on stand-by for the case that the camp was dissolved and a new school had to be organized. With the latest news, it´s clear that this won´t happen. Considering the great reports and the successful efforts by Hugging Nepal to sustain the life in the camp, I´ve decided to forward the last part of the funds (55885NPR = 484.49€) to the organization. The money will be used for the salaries of the Nepali teachers, materials and additional improvements as batteries for the light in the school for the late afternoon. With this, the last part of your donations has reached the people of the camp and will give many people smiles and a chance for a better future. One big thanks to all of you!

Here I want to give a big credit to Prashant Khanal, who had supported the project the whole time without getting anything but the good feeling of helping! He spent time, his own money and effort to visit the camp, report, manage the donated money, buy and carry materials to the camp. As I offered him some small compensation for his efforts from my own pocket, he absolutely refused! Not only Nepal but the world needs people like him!
