Baby Steps

Update posted by Ma. Catherine Perez

Yesterday was Independence Day for Jace. After being connected to cables and wires for almost a month, the doctors decided to remove them so he can now freely use his hands for playing! Hurrah!

REWIND

Last Saturday, he was finally allowed to take in clear fluids.

November 2, he can now take in milk. Imagine his joy when he saw his feeding bottle filled with milk for the first time in weeks. His happy face was the best birthday gift I received.

He gets excited each time the food guy arrives and would shout ?WOOOWWW Mommy!! Baw!? By the way, ?Baw? means sabaw (soup) in Jace?s language J

Gradually, he was allowed to take in jelly and, oatmeal. Yesterday, he was even given vanilla ice cream for snacks! ?Keem! Keem!? Oh, I wish you could have seen how happy he was.

Since he was already allowed to feed, we have been monitoring his poop for any changes. So far, the bleeding gradually lessened and we have not seen a spot for a day. He has a slight fever since yesterday but it was not as bad as before.

FAST FORWARD

His doctor decided to just finish the medicines connected to him and keep him under observation. If there will be no signs of bleeding and his fever stops for about two days, we can finally take Jace home! Yipee!

Sadly, no, they did not find the cause of the bleeding yet. And there is no assurance it will stop completely but we are all hoping and praying for the best.

As I was saying, yesterday was a big day for him. He is finally free from needles and tubes. He wanted to walk and was happy to wear his shoes again.

It broke our hearts a bit to see that he was having a hard time walking. His knees are wobbly and he can?t control his feet. But he was happy and excited all the same. We had to hold him so he would not fall. After a few minutes of walking he complained ?tiit!?(sakit - painful) while pointing at his feet.

He used to run around and even knows how to jump. But now he?s back to taking baby steps. It?s a bit heart breaking but he is such a determined little boy. I am very much willing to teach and guide him again just like we did before? one step at a time.

The battle is not yet concluded but your help has deeply touched everyone in the family. If only Jace knows what is happening around him, I am pretty sure he would love to meet every one of you to personally say THANK YOU for your prayers and generosity.

Please continue to support our brave little boy. We have a series of gigs, a mini concert and a cake drive all lined up for him. God Bless you!
