3 VETS CONFIRM NOP IS TOTALLY BLIND

Update posted by VERITY CATTANACH POOLE

Thank you so much everyone for the wonderful response to the sad plight of poor Nop who's never hurt a fly and is the happiest dog I've ever met. We believe some of you kind supporters have had trouble donating through our business Paypal account so we'd like to ask you to use our old Paypal account email [email protected]. You can do this from this site, from our FB Headrock Dogs Rescue or from our website www.headrockdogs.org.uk Thank you so much

It's just over 3 weeks since Nop's horrendously cruel attack leaving him plunged into darkness but he wags his tail incessantly especially when we go into his pen. He loves the attention but when we leave he cries. So sad.

We have just returned (Monday 16 Nov) from a new vet who confirms that Nop is totally blind. He gave Nop a more thorough examination than the previous 2 vets taking him into a dark room and shining a bright light in his eye. He said the pupil didn't dilate indicating that his optic nerve is damaged beyond repair.. This is such devastating news for such a happy dog who loves to run and play and is always on the move around. Despite his terrible disability Nop jumps on his bench all the time

without crashing into it and jumps off without scraping his chin on the ground. He also walks around the pen often walking up to the fence and then avoids crashing into it at the last minute. Maybe I'm living in hope too much but I do question whether Nop can distinguish between dark and light even though he can't see the object in detail. We'll only know by constant monitoring and taking him way from his familiar environment. We will try this when he's more confident.

Whilst at the vet he did sniff and examine several objects without bumping into them but sadly he walked into the RECOVERY board. Very sad.

We now have to decide how Nop will spend his life with us. Shall we put him in a different pen with Petal his friend from the Temple or shall we let him try to live loose with the other dogs or shall we make a completely new big open pen for him to wander around safely in? Or the big question shall we put him up for adoption to a loving understanding person? Nop is such an affectionate sweet natured dog it seems such a shame to let all that love go to waste....except on us of course. It's still early days to make a decision..
