Chlo's Gruffalo party & the future

Update posted by Sylvia D.A.

Hi everyone,

First of all, thank you SO much for your continued support. You are all fantastic.

Last Sunday it was Chlo's party! And gosh, so many people turned up. It was a lovely party, with amazing food, lot's of energetic children and lovely guests. Chlo has really enjoyed herself, and especially the bouncy castle was a big hit. The weather was also gorgeous, the children have all played outside as well as inside. To everyone who helped us out, thank you!

On a more serious note - it was fun, but also very tough, especially for Sabrina. She was there without her beloved husband, Chlo missed her daddy's presence. We all missed Dan. It's been over a month now and although things are looking up, Dan is still in intensive care. He is now out of his coma, but it's very difficult to say how the brain damage has affected him.

On good days he smiles and can follow simple commands. On bad days his body doesn't want to cooperate. It's still very much a roller coaster and it will probably continue to be a roller coaster ride for the foreseeable future.

The future. What will it look like? Obviously that's a question nobody can answer, however Dan's Team of specialists seem to be more hopeful. Dan has beaten all the odds so far, simply by surviving a cardiac arrest, then followed by the amazing progress he has made and is still making. It will be a very slow process and it's doubtful that Sabrina will get all of Dan back. Seeing that he has beaten all the odds already, we will just believe she will!

This brings me to the next subject. Finances. Nobody wants to talk about it as it's boring and nobody's business. I do agree, but in this case it's a bit different. We have raised a lot of money already. But as it stands, Sabrina will have to go back to work fulltime again, very soon. She will not be able to take a full year of maternity leave like she did with Chlo. Going back to work isn't necessarily a bad thing as it will give Sabrina a new focus. But it's not just that, rough figures have shown us that the money which has been raised so far, won't even last for 6 months. I am talking mortgage, bills, expensive childcare, food and whatever you spend on a monthly basis.

Apart from that, Sabrina needs to start thinking about what to do when Dan is ready to come home. Of course, it won't be any time soon. He will need rehabilitation first, probably at least a year. But in order for Dan to come home, the flat will need to be suitable. Loads and loads of adjustments will need to be made. Think adjustable bath, he will need his own room, more space. Stairlifts. Extensions. It doesn't stop.

Yes.... It is not going to happen for at least a year. But Sabrina simply has to think about how and what, simply to prepare herself. Currently there are some plans which need to be written down. There will be some sort of event at some point, a raffle, auction, whatever it takes to raise a lot of money and help Sabrina and Dan through this. Watch this space!

But in the mean time, please keep donating, keep sharing and let it go viral.

Sabrina, Dan and the children really need your support.

Thank you,

Team Mason x
