HOUSED REFUGEES, GREAT NEWS AND REFUGEES IN NEED OF HOUSING

Update posted by Andrea Oterova

NEW HOUSING:

SHAFIK: April

We have been looking for housing through different sources but we have only found two places and refugees have to pay rent there. Virginie, our team member has inquired with a Priest in her area who has offered Shafik, a photographer and graphic designer from Syria whom we have known since October, a place in a shared room. The hosts are very happy with him and Shafik is quite independent, sorting things for himself and he says he is happy there. We hope that he soon hears the news of being granted an asylum and he can start working in the job he loves. He has even helped us create beautiful posters for our fundraising event, thank you Shafik for the speed and quality!!:-)

MAITHAM and ABRAR: April

We have met Maitham and Abrar with their three beautiful children, who are from Iraq, at the beginning of this year at Vordere Zollamtsstarsse camp. The camp is now closed and we have known that for a while and could not find anything for them. Therefore, our team members Sarah, Sonia and Glenn have joined forces and contributed towards their rent in a flat that they found. Soon they will move to a better, bigger flat for a similar price close to Sonia. The team has been working hard to help them integrate; they found a kindergarten spot for Ritaj, their little girl and are now looking to transfer the boys to a school close to home. We have made clothes and toys collections for them and the team is helping them with activities for children, medical visits and overall integration. The parents are also going to German courses, all is going well and we hope that soon we hear the good news that they got an asylum.

HOUSED REFUGEES, GREAT NEWS AND REFUGEES IN NEED OF HOUSING:

Housed refugees (cca. 30 people): As for the refugees we have helped house, many have integrated very well. Integration is not easy for many and for some it takes less time while others are very hesitant in moving forward, understandably. We are giving as much support as possible and there is always something to sort either with their needs, benefits, doctors, kindergartens, social engagement, language, etc.

We are very, very happy to share GREAT NEWS about some refugees we have been supporting and congratulate them :-)

Bassam!!! Firstly, we thank you for all your help in supporting refugees. Congratulations on your asylum, your passport and…your new job!!!! Sulaiman, Rahaf and family, Abdullah and Natalie, Qamar and family and Dania and Bashir, we congratulate you on your asylum and we wish you the best of luck in finding a job soon!!

We hope to soon add more congratulations for the other people :-).

We are still looking for a place for Ahmed and Doaa (from Iraq, staying at a camp), who is pregnant and giving birth to a baby girl in July; Somayeh and her boy (a political refugee from Iran, staying at a camp), she is pregnant as well and giving birth in September. Finally, we are looking for housing for Fatimah and her two children (staying at a camp), a boy aged 16 and a girl aged 8. A great lady, Hajer, is assisting them in their needs meanwhile.

We are assisting the rest of the refugees with donations and necessities and helping them sort their legal matters, such as Caritas payments, kindergarten registration, German courses, medical needs and social activities.

PICTURES of these refugees are in the previous updates, we do not post more for privacy reasons.
