Blood Test Results

Update posted by brightmolly

I got this email from the vet:

Hi Molly:

Please find enclosed Beatrice's blood reports from today.  As you can see, many values are in normal range but few are concerning. I think her white cell count is high with Neutrohils @ 140007 (2060-10600) because of sever oral infection and gum disease and teeth issues.  Calcium and Potassium may be off because of ability to eat or may be it is something else underlying. Thyroid with T4 @ < 0.5 (0.8-3.5) is very low , making me, think it coudl eb a real Hypothyroidism. As T4 can be "Temporarily" dragged down by other concurrent health issues (like oral infections), before I start on life long thyroid supplement, I want to verify T4 by adding a test called "T4 by ED" to the blood tets already submitted. We, however, need your permission for this ~ $84.00 test. Please call us to let us know if we can add that test.

Rest of the values we will recheck in about 2-4 weeks and my hope is they will reset in to normal range after we have fixed the severe oral issue.

Thank you for being a caring mom for Beatrice and including us in her health care team.

I'm hoping we can hold off on testing the thyroid with T4 if possible. I'm going to ask the vet about it. I'm also planning on calling some other vets tomorrow to get a few other opinions and pricings.

Tonight, after I fed Beatrice some raw food puree instead of kibble, I administered the mouth rinse and gave her the liquid antibiotic. She did not enjoy me prying her mouth open and squirting fluids in, but I'm hopeful that it will help.
