Return from December trip - next trip planned for March

Update posted by Frances Vigay

We've just returned from four days working in Calais. Eleven of us split into various working areas, some building shelters and doing repairs on 'homes' in the camp, others working in the warehouses of both L'Auberge and Care4Calais, sorting food parcels, toiletry packs, clothes, shoes, socks, hats etc for distribution into the camp. We assisted with distributions. Members of our group also went into the camp to teach English and also to work with the medics, mainly administering cough and cold medicines and dealing with first aid issues for the constant queue of people coming to the medic caravan for attention. We also dropped off all our donations between the two warehouses and gave the remainder of our donated cash to Care4Calais who are doing such excellent work with sorting and getting donations quickly out into the camp. As of today we have £8 left in the bank, which is great, as we have been able to contribute and donate such a great deal (whilst also being such a tiny drop in the ocean!) all thanks to the generous donations of so many caring people. Thank you so much!

We plan to return as a working group to Calais in March. Nearer the time we will list the current lists for items needed which we will take with us.
