6 weeks to go!

Update posted by Caroline Lecky

In little under six weeks we will be in Khao Yai National Park getting ready for the half marathon!

So, just a little update on everything............Lisa has been doing really well; she has her blonde locks back and will be moving home by the end of this month in preparation for the new arrival!

We also heard something that makes Lisa's story even more incredible and special; We have been told that in the past 5 years Lisa is the first person in the UK to survive a brain hemorrhage whilst pregnant. Truly is a miracle for us.

TRAINING

Training wise, Kris has now made it to 10 miles! I was out of action for a month on a wee bit of a knee injury but am back in training and have today finished my first ever 9 mile run. I have a feeling however Kris will be crossing the finish line long before me!

Pee Nok has been practicing for her 3.5 km and our flights and hotels are booked!

AWARENESS

I have been exploring how to raise awareness of alternative Stroke therapies, such as the Hyperbaric Oxygen Treatment, so that others in future can use it as a tool for information and advice. Especially younger stroke sufferers such as Lisa. This is something that I will be working on longer term as we would like to see how the treatment works, how Lisa responds to it, and how effective it is.

BLOG

I am using my Scuba Diving connections within PADI as my first stepping stone to raising awareness of this relatively new treatment. PADI is the Professional Association of Diving Instructors - the world's largest recreational diving membership and diver training organization.

I have been given the opportunity to write at least one blog for the PADI Website about what we are doing to raise money for Lisa and also awareness of this treatment. Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy was initially developed and used for Navy Divers to receive treatment for Decompression Sickness from diving. Nowadays it is used for recreational divers as Scuba Diving has become more increasingly popular around the world every year.

Hyperbaric Medicine has been used in more recent times to treat other injuries and illnesses such as burns, skin grafts, carbon monoxide poisoning and gangrene. It has also been used to treat Multiple Sclerosis, Cerebral Palsy and Stroke, however no significant evidence has been recorded as yet.

I will be writing my blog before the race in October and it will be posted on the PADI website and Facebook page, and I will be sure to update you all with links to the Blog.
