It's been an interesting ride

Well, it's been some time since we started this fundraiser, and some changes have occurred. It turns out that my toe infection was progressing way too fast to wait for the Stem Cell injection to help. There was only one artery below the knee that was functional and it had two narrowings in it. The blood flow was so minimal that the toe would not heal. One of the resident doctors told us that we were no doubt looking at an amputation just below the knee.

Luckily she was a resident and not the surgeon! My surgeon was not positive that a bypass was possible due to the location of the narrowings, but it still seemed like the best option. Her concern was that if it failed, there would be no blood flow left to the foot. My surgeon is an incredible lady who really wanted to save as much of my foot as was humanly possible. We decided to take the chance. She did an amazing job on the bypass and my foot is healing slowly. I only lost 2/3 of big toe, so my balance should not be affected.

I want to thank everyone who donated to help us pay for the Stem Cell that did not happen. Needless to say that money has been put to good use as I have not been able to work for nearly 2 months, and as you might imagine the bills have not stopped coming. This all came on the heels of Jan being out of work all summer due to shoulder surgery. As much as it is uncomfortable for me to ask, if anyone who reads this can contribute a small amount, we could certainly use it to keep solvent. I will be back to work part time soon, so in a month or so things should look better. I once again thank everyone for any help you can give.
