The day after the building was condemned, D was allowed back in to get her cats and some posessions.   We are babysitting her boys and they are being very good guests.  Their mama taught them well.   That is the other thing you may not know, D helps to rescue and foster cats.   Not too many,  just a few here and there.  But her heart is in the right place.  My dog knows,  he waits for her at the same time every day,  knows her car and begins to whine and dance as soon as he sees it.    So I have her cats while she got some clothes and other things needed, thinking she could come back with help to get the rest of her things.

Some time since then, vandals broke into the apartment, stole her computer and other electronics  (although more likely than not they are not in good working order due to the lightning strike)  but also two video game systems that belonged to her older son that were not plugged in.  They were older models,  the kids had gotten newer versions that she took with her when she was able to get her things.  But they still worked.  They were still good.  

The living room was completely trashed,  things upended,  cushions thrown around.  Drawers emptied, just random mess making by jerks who prey upon the misfortune of others.

At some point she's going to catch a break,  but so far hasn't shown outwardly that her run of bad luck is breaking her down.  When you've got a great group of friends, and family and your kids love you,  it is amazing what you can overcome.
