Blake’s Dysphagia Fundraiser

Our son, Blake was born on August 13, 2017 in Mt.Alvernia Hospital Singapore. At about 12 hours of life, he was noted to be extremely lethargic and tachypnoeic. After he received 3 feeds which were recorded as sucking poorly and had to be syringe fed, he was transferred to NICU due to respiratory distress. He was noted to be passive and tone was slightly hypotonic. He was unable to suck and had to be suctioned frequently as he was unable to swallow his secretions.

After tons of medical work-ups, he has abnormal EEG and it was noted he have dysphagia. He have to be fed through NGT since. He has had 2 episodes of pneumonia with special care (PICU) over the last 6 months.

Medical history is also significant to motor delays. he is not able to turn his body independently yet. With this condition that Blake has, he is considered to be a fragile baby and have higher risk of getting sick.

As of today, he is currently being seen by a physical therapist to improve trunk control and SLP for swallowing. He still have follow up appointment for neurologist, Gastroenterologist, pulmonologist, speech, ENT, genetics and developmental pediatrician. We still don't know exactly what the out of pocket total will be when all is said and done. He is also considered for PEG surgery (G tube feeding directly into his stomach), which would requires yet another procedure.

It has been tough for me and wife to see our son suffering in this way. He is 8 mos old now and had been on batteries of test investigating on how to resolve the disorder.
