My goal is to be able to help and empower women.  I am currently a nurse but I want to get certification to become a childbirth educator, lactation educator, and labor, birth, postpartum, and bereavement doula.   I want to do this but I can't afford to pay for it due to financial problems and 2 small children.

I had a difficult labor/birth with my first child.  I didn't know about doula services.  If I did, I would have certainly gotten one.  I was in labor for 27 hours and had 2 failed epidurals.  It was our first child so my husband was pretty clueless as to how to help me through it.  It was a nightmare.  I don't want other women to have to go through that alone.  I am in love with pregnancy and childbirth and want to help everyone I can.

Here is the information from Childbirth International - where I will get all but my bereavement certification.

"Benefits with combined courses

Many of our students choose the combined course programs so they can offer a greater range of services to their clients. You may choose to work as a Birth Doula and also a Postpartum Doula to extend the time you work with each family. Offering childbirth classes as well as doula services enables you to provide a more comprehensive service or take time off from Birth Doula work when you have young children or a full time job. Adding Breastfeeding Counselor to your CV enables you to work with women during the first year and support them in breastfeeding their baby."

and this is the bereavement certification

"Birth & Bereavement Training

Established in August 2011, stillbirthday provides the most comprehensive, globally accessible, dual training program of its kind, combining a complete birth doula preparation program with an intensive bereavement doula training.  Upon successful completion of our course and earning the SBD credentials, you will be capable of providing support for birth in any outcome and in any trimester.

If you are already an established birth professional, you can strengthen these skills you may or may not have acquired through other birth professional organizations.  You also have an opportunity to earn 30 nursing contact hours.  This is an entirely online course, that is easily accessible to any SBD student."
