Campaign Story
This Bio-Hybrid Solar Electric Pedal Vehicle is a project study of 4th-year Mechanical Engineering students from the Technological University of the Philippines-Taguig Campus. The proponents of the study are the following students:
1.) John Roland Duenas
2.) Pamela Denise Casero
3.) Aljohn Lacal
4.) Jemuel Manalo
5.) Jesster Santos
6.) Benedict Javier
The theoretical background of this project is based on improving and innovating our current vehicle technology and promote an environment-friendly means of transportation by using renewable energy. This vehicle can be driven by pedal or electric motor and can be charged via three different ways; 1.) By an AC electric outlet; 2.) Pedal charging; 3.) Via a solar panel. This four-wheeled vehicle is to be operated by a 1000 watts BLDC Hub Motor to transport one person (120kg) at a maximum speed of 30 km per hour. At full charge, the battery can drive the vehicle at a distance of up to to 74 kilometers (charging of pedal and solar excluded). Pedal charging and solar charging will help reduce the power consumption of the built-in battery and is an eco-friendly addition that will further increase the travel distance capacity of the vehicle. The project involves the factors for the computation (such as mass, force, stresses, velocity, acceleration, time and distance) that will affect the resulting output of the design and construction of the vehicle. This project is targeted to serve as a reference for engineering design in constructing electric vehicles which is an alternative solution to our country’s fast growing transportation and environmental problem. The vehicle can be used as an alternative mode of personal transportation and will lessen our dependence on oil and internal combustion engines.
