Bill Tejada’s Medical Assistance

My daughters, Lisa, Cecille, and Agnes, and I, would like to appeal to your good hearts and generosity in raising funds for my husband’s rising medical costs. My husband, Bill Tejada, has been in the hospital for more than three months, admitted with community acquired pneumonia, then afflicted with hospital acquired pneumonia and resulting complications. He was in the ICU for over a month and is still requiring significant medical care while awake and responsive but supported by a respirator and dialysis that are needed as he slowly improves. Throughout these months, our family provided for these medical needs but the costs escalated beyond our expectations given the complications that have risen due to many factors.

WHAT HAPPENED: Bill was admitted to the hospital on October 7, 2021 with community acquired pneumonia. He needed ventilatory support by the next day, with acute renal failure and had to be placed on continuous dialysis and antibiotics. He recovered a week later, was taken off the vent, and was awake and responsive, only to be reintubated two days later due to hospital-acquired pneumonia. He again was septic, needed blood pressure support, developed a heart arrhythmia that had been controlled, but had improved renal function. He slowly became awake, was quite responsive and communicating over Christmas and the new year, but had infections in his venous/access catheters that needed repeated revisions not only due to infection but due to technical issues, stable pneumonia but with fluid in the lungs that have been drained but would get clogged. He was transferred out fo the ICU while trying to wean off the respirator, but we needed to provide for 24 hour daily private duty nurses to monitor him and care for him as the hospital is short staffed. We supply the things they need on a daily basis. In The ICU where he stayed for over a month, the cost was Php 100,000 a day. Even in his private room, the cost continues to be significant as he is still to be weaned from the respirator, he has antibiotics, is on intermittent dialysis, with the necessary nurses the hospital was unable to provide. He has been improving and has tolerated weaning off the ventilator but some strain to his system necessitated postponing this. His renal function and cardiac function are stable, and he has been awake and responsive.

PRIOR TO HIS ADMISSION, Bill has been an active member of the community. He had hypertension, had successful bypass surgery more than 15 years ago, and had very controlled Parkinsonism. He was mobile, sometimes using a walker or a wheelchair when walking longer distances or in unfamiliar surroundings, but continued to have a sharp mind. His grandchildren brought him joy and he continued to be active in their lives, whether near or far. As you all know, Bill always lived an honest and humble life, and has provided for our needs through his entire life.

PLEASE HELP US. While Bill is in the twilight of his years, and while we know his recovery is slow and uphill, we have tried to support his medical needs given that he continues to fight and show improvement. His medical course, while difficult, has been uplifting for all who care for him, and for his family. We continue to support him and keep him comfortable but the rising costs have drained our resources. We humbly ask you to please consider helping us . Any amount will definitely help in his care.
