#BFringe- Support Young Artists!

This year, Apropo Theatre is organizing the 9th edition of the Bucharest Fringe-The Independent Theatre Marathon Festival. It is the most important of its kind and it will be held between 10th of october and 20th of october 2019 in Bucharest.

As the years went by, Bucharest Fringe opened its doors to new and up-and-coming projects that were born from the innovative and creative minds belonging to the youth of the theatre scene in Bucharest. We made it our goal to support recent graduates of the art university and people who were at their start of their career in the arts, a thing that was reflected in the awards we offered (such as “Evenings of the Student's Theatre”) and in the fact that we took under our wing the best performances and put them in our theatre's schedule.

In order for us to continue the tradition of celebrating the young and fresh in the Independent Bucharest theatre scene, we are calling everyone who can help keep our dream alive! We wish to continue our journey in promoting young artists because we know how important it is to be given the freedom of speech and expression, and we couldn't imagine letting our dream fade away.

The main themes of this year’s edition are “interdisciplinarity” , “literature” and “innovation”. We want to thank all the artists that took part in creating the more than 50 productions that were submitted for the selection; the high quality of their work made it really difficult for us to choose. Due to financial difficulties that the independent scene in Bucharest and, implicitly, our Festival, is facing, we were confronted with some painful compromises and we had to give up important aspects, such as including performances from other Romanian cities in the festival’s schedule.

Despite all obstacles, the organizers have put together a varied selection of performances and events, from theatre performances: “Schrodinger’s Cat”, “The Cult of Personality” or “The White Rabbit” to theatre-dance performances: “To Each a Man to Love”, photo exhibitions, book launches and a workshop of theatrical creation based on a famous Romanian legend, developed by a Belgian artist. The workshop will be finished with a performance, marking an important cultural exchange between the two countries.

Also part of this year’s schedule are 2 premieres and 1 preview: the preview of the play “Circles of Trust”, directed by Radu Popescu, the premiere of the performance “The Shakespeare Experiment” and the premiere of the play “LO-LI-TA a LO-VE Story”, based on the famous novel by Vladimir Nabokov.

Throughout the 8 editions of the festival, we have supported over 2000 independent artists and their work in about 250 performances, work that was enjoyed by over 20.000 spectators.
