This Berlin project has been on my mind for a long time. It all started with an old second hand guidebook and other books published few years before the wall fell, which I found by chance in a street market.
The more I have studied the post war situation in Berlin, the more my interest has focused on a detail: the “death strip” and its almost invisible remains, which are still there like a wound, a scar that hurts at the heart of the city, the empty space between the two sides, the lag between life and death.
To do my research and write a book I need to move to Berlin for a while, explore the city by the light of these old maps, to discover what has survived there, to try to hear and voice the echo of the past. I would like to use prose, poetry, audio and video recordings to tell this story. I am here to raise funds to get my project started: I'll have to rent a room and pay for my life there. I'll keep my notes updated on my blog and post the drafts of my work. I'll credit all of you on my book and thank you for having made all of this real.
Rewards
A copy of a book of mine to be chosen between "Requiem auf einer Stele" (Conversation Paperpress, 2010) or "Dunkelwort" (Uhu Bcher, 2013)
