Teluk Sumbang is a remote village with limited access located in East Kalimantan - Indonesia, which has the land transportation distance almost 8 hours to Tanjung Redep, the Berau regency capital. The village is very rich of natural beauty and cultural heritage, where also ethnic diversity such as Christian Dayak and Moslem Bugis can live in harmony and side by side. However, it is regrettable that many kids and youths are drop out from school due to financial reason. Whereas, education is an important instrument to break the chain of poverty.
To increase their access to informal education, we would like to establish a small library (reading corner) with inspiration class session focus on natural resources and sustainable energy for them. With this reading corner, we hope we can create a friendly learning environment that will foster the interest of reading on each of them also to keep the spirit of learning, interacting and gathering creative ideas!
For inspirational (profession) classes that focus on sustainable energy and natural resource, we hope we can increase their interest and knowledge on developing electricity from clean energy in Indonesia and to have more awareness on environmental issues.
The details of the funds are as follows:
- Mini Library: 1. Infrastructure renovation: 30 mio IDR; 2. New energy books/audio visual learning equipment (Screen & Laptop): 9 mio IDR
- Inspirational Class: 1. Experimental material: 7 mio IDR; 2. Gifts for quiz and snack: 4 mio IDR

About the team
Dallih, Ali, Sarah, Refi, Irham, Laksita, Marsha and friends are currently working together in the field of renewable energy in Indonesia and have awareness to contribute on increasing education access in remote areas. Starting from their work that often tracing the deepest area of Indonesia, they realized that the availability of education and the main needs - such as electricity, is very uneven in Indonesia, notably in remote areas. This affects the economic development and ends in poverty, eventually becomes the biggest obstacle for the children to study and attend the school.
