Every four minutes someone is diagnosed with a blood cancer.

Every 10 minutes someone loses their battle with their blood cancer in the US.

Last year, the Connecticut chapter of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society helped over 2,400 patients. Over 400 newly diagnosed patients received a new patient care binder and financial aid. The chapter currently funds five researchers in Connecticut. They also funded patient and professional education programs throughout Connecticut to share new therapies being discovered to help treat blood cancer.

The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society is a cause very close to my heart, all the more so since someone close to me is currently battling Leukemia.

Already planning to have a recital this winter, we soon realized that we could turn this recital into an opportunity to do good. With this disease so close to home, I proposed the idea of turning our reunion recital into a benefit recital for the Leukemia and Lymphoma society. My friends, being the wonderful people they are, jumped at the idea to help support research towards treatment and, hopefully, a cure. No individual will benefit directly from this fundraiser - our chamber group will receive no benefit - but our hope is that our small contribution can help make a difference for many people in the future.

The recital will take place on January 6th 2013, in Berkman Recital hall, at the Hartt School, on the University of Hartford Campus.

In addition to this benefit recital, I am taking part in the Eta Mu Chapter of Sigma Alpha Iota’s Benefit for Life.

The Eta Mu Chapter of Sigma Alpha Iota, located at the University of Hartford’s Hartt School in West Hartford, Connecticut. Sigma Alpha Iota International Music Fraternity is an organization, which promotes interaction among those who share a commitment to music. SAI’s mission is to encourage, nurture, and support the art of music.

For the past twelve years, the Eta Mu Chapter has hosted an event entitled Benefit for Life, a concert to raise funds and awareness for a charity we hold dear to our hearts.

This year, Eta Mu’s cause is the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (Connecticut Chapter). Benefit for Life is scheduled for Friday, March 1, 2013 at 7:00pm, in Lincoln Theater, on the University of Hartford campus.

Thank you so much for your support! We really appreciate every donation, as every dollar can make a huge difference!
