Dear Patron

The Evangelical Lutheran Church Springfield - Church of Peace is situated in the small coastal city of Port Elizabeth, South Africa. Our present church building was opened in 1971 where we are still to this day providing Divine Services every Sunday (the congregation exists since more than 100 years).

Our centre consists of the church, the mezzanine youth upper room, the manse and the hall. Prior to Covid-19 we were able to rent out the hall and charge a small fee to bring in some revenue for the maintenance of the buildings.

We require your help to assist us in accomplishing some of our urgently needed and dream projects which we have had to put on hold due to the COVID-19 lock-down situation in South Africa. These projects are our way of upgrading the building in order to "keep our doors open"

Since before lock-down and during the COVID-9 pandemic we as a congregation have been assisting families with food supplies. The pandemic has made it ever so hard for these families and without your help we cannot continue to do so. Families are still struggling to put food on the table as they continue to try and find work as they have been without work since the start of lock-down.

Current Project needing assistance:
  • Food relief for families affected by the lock-down due to COVID-19
    • Sanitary items are bought and distributed.
    • Food parcels are put together and distributed
Dreams Goals:
  • Hall roof repairs due to rain and storm damage inside revamps due to water damages
  • Church: Roof/Gutter, Wall behind the altar
  • Change lamps to LED to save energy costs
  • Renovate the Hall floor as the tiles have lifted and without this repair we are unable to hire out the hall
  • We would like to upgrade our youth upper room to encourage more youth to visit our church
  • New projector for use at services

Due to the current pandemic we have seen our struggling church dip even further than what we would have liked and is struggling to "keep the doors open". Financially due to the pandemic we are falling behind in our Stewardship fees due to the loss of donations and contributions. It is our plea to you for assistance where possible to allow us to continue the work we do for our community.

Repairs commence

Update posted by Edmund Henry Newman at 11:51 pm

Hello from the Evangelical Lutheran Church Port ElizabethWe're extremely excited to advise that some repairs have started on our Church building. To the right of the Altar the walls and roof suffered water damage which was unnoticed due to the nature of the water leak. The wall has been stripped. . . . .
