Beit Ummar Cooperative Society for Food Processing

Beit Ummar is a Palestinian town located in Area C of the West Bank in the Occupied Palestinian Territory. Being surrounded by illegal settlements and under the control of the Israeli military, it faces numerous challenges including frequent raids, house demolitions, and settler violence. In 2019, one-third of the Palestinian children in Israeli prisons were from Beit Ummar.

In addition, Beit Ummar is hardly hit by the economic depression, with an unemployment rate between 60 and 80%.
This dire situation for its 20 000 inhabitants has been aggravated by the escalation of the conflict in May 2021.
Charity Association and Cooperative Society
In 2007, the Beit Ummar Charity Association was created to provide direct assistance to those the most at risk of marginalization and poverty. As women are globally at greater risk of economic insecurity, the association mainly supports women’s economic empowerment. It is composed of around 60 low-income women selling homemade products through the association, including traditional Palestinian tatreez (embroidery), grape syrup (dibs), or spices (zaatar).
By empowering these women, the association also supports their families and ultimately the community. It also provides them with learning opportunities, such as language courses or first aid training.


The members of the association also work together to find opportunities to serve different groups in the local community, such as

Supporting children and encouraging them to learn.

Supporting students and encouraging them to continue their education in schools and universities (financial and moral support).

Searching for the elderly in general and the sick in particular to provide for their needs (many have no income and no family to support them.

Working with people with special needs and supporting them directly or through partner associations.

Donating to the association means giving the opportunity to work on continuity of activities and to find new activities that also help the local community in its various needs and to reach the largest possible number of those who need this support.
