The Round Table Project
The Round Table is a research project about art collective initiated by RAR Editions. This project tries to read and record the movements of artist collectives work practices in Southeast Asian to answer our main issue about art collective and generation overlay in art collective. Aimed to trigger critical discussion related to individual involvement in art collective itself, this project will be done in various form including website as directory, FGD (focus group discussions), published journals, and also an exhibitions.
We also limit our informant based on the ages of the collective member due to the need of broadening our discussion about collective as an epoch marker. The directory will be made in the form of a website: www.theroundtable.art, including the artist collectives profile along with their archive of works to get a wider audience. We also hope that the accessibility of these data can increase an exposure for some collectives who may still need it. This site will regularly raise discussion about the issue of youth movements related to their collective behavior with the data that will be obtained through interview methods.
1.1 Being Sweet Isn’t Enough, Sometimes?
Being Sweet Isn’t Enough, Sometimes? is a part of the bigger project, The Round Table. Through this specific project, we’ll try to learn how art collective in different geographic condition, culture, political situation, and language is doing. This project will be held first through residency program at Tentacles Gallery at Bangkok, Thailand. During our residency period, our focus is including networking with young collectives in Bangkok, profiling and interviewing, opening discussions to share information, studying the nature of their collective, and so on. So that we can build discussions again among young collectives in Indonesia armed with the experience and information we get during interacting with young collectives in the city of Bangkok.
On the other hand, as an art collective who does residency, we open ourselves to any collaboration with young collectives there to form works that will be presented as exhibitions at the Tentacles Gallery and self-published book. We hope that the results of this collaboration will be re-presented when we return to Yogyakarta.
Extending the range of information related to the art collective as a global information channel in the form of a website. So it can be accessed by anyone as one of the supporting information related to art collectives spread throughout Southeast Asia.
Give information space related to art collectives and the sustainability of these art collectives. It also aimed to trigger critical discussion related to individual involvement with art collective and collective participation in broader art discourse.
The residency will be held from 15 October 2018 to 15 November 2018, at the Tentacles Gallery, 2198 / 10-11 Soi Taweewattana, Chan Rd., Chongnonsee, Yan Nawa, Bangkok 10120.

In time, RAR grows along with some projects we were working on and decided to change our format into a platform that focused in research and archive based project where we used the design thinking as the way of seeing and speak common sense.
We also work as a self-publishing house specialize on literature and visual culture for young people. We’ve already published various kind of artist book and zine that made by our friends in a limited edition series
