I will be undergoing the final phase of my Gender Reassignment Surgery(GRS) this year in a local hospital — Phalloplasty. This will be done in 3 stages, which I will go into further detail below. I have tried my best to be as detailed as possible in describing what I’ll be going through and why I’m crowdfunding (below). But if you require any more details or have any further questions, please let me know! 🙏 You can direct them to: [email protected]

Three stages of my phalloplasty journey:

Stage 1: Hysterectomy, Bilateral Salpingo-oophorectomy and Pre-fabrication of urethra

What happens at Stage 1?

The removal of womb (Hysterectomy) and ovaries and fallopian tubes (Salpingo-oophorectomy). This will be done via an open technique instead of keyhole because of the risks involved.

A catheter will be inserted in my non-dominant arm (left) and left to harvest for the lengthening of my urethra in preparation for Stage 3.

What I foresee the recovery phase will be like?

I’ll be dealing with an approximately 5cm or longer stitch on my lower abdomen. My left arm will be on a cast and I may be bedridden for a couple of days post-discharge. I will need to flush through the catherter in my arm twice a day and ensure the area is kept clean and infection free.

(3 months later)

Stage 2: Radial forearm free flap and insertion of radial bone.

What happens at Stage 2?

Skin, fat, tissue, nerves and a section of my radial bone from my left arm will be removed to form the phallus. A metal plate will be inserted in replacement of the piece of bone removed. Skin from my thigh will be used as a skin graft in replacement of the skin removed from my forearm. Tissue from my inner cheek will be used for my phallus as well. My surgeon will be forming the phallus at this stage and the procedure is called RFF (Radial Forearm Freeflap).

What I foresee the recovery phase will be like?

Lol. I don’t even want to think about it. As you can tell already, this is an incredibly invasive surgery. A large chunk of my left forearm will be used as graft for my phallus, I will have to deal with the recovery of the wound site and regaining of arm function. I will not be able to move my wrist. I will likely be going for physiotherapy at some point. As tissue will be removed from my inner cheek, I’ll not be able to have solid food for a while and I love food.

I’ll need to ensure that at all cost my new phallus doesn’t drop off as well lol. I will need proper post-op care at this stage and will be considering a few options: Airbnb, Hotel, etc.

(6 months later)

Stage 3: Urethraplasty, insertion of pump, vaginectomy, scrotal implants

What happens at Stage 3?

Urethra will be lengethened to be able to stand to pee. Vagina entrance will be sewn up and closed for good. Erection pump will be inserted to the phallus and implants inserted in both scrotal sacs.

What I foresee the recovery phase will be like?

To be edited, but it won’t be ‘as bad as’ stage 2. I will be bedridden for a few days post op. I need to make sure my implants don’t fall out lol.

When are my surgeries?

Stage 1: 7th May 2021

Stage 2: 3 months from Stage 1 (to be edited with date later)

Stage 3: 6 months from Stage 2 (to be edited with date later)

Abit of a background on the first GRS surgery I went through:

As some of you would know, I travelled overseas (Penang, Malaysia) alone for my Masectomy (Top Surgery) and booked a bed in a shared room at a backpackers hostel. It was pretty tough post-op, as I had to head out 4 streets down the road from the hostel to get food. And they weren’t exactly nutritious food that I should have after a surgery lol but no regrets because the street food in penang was amazing. I also had to shift beds from the ground floor to the second floor because there was no way I could possible climb up the bunk bed. Shifting up to the second floor was tough despite getting the lower bunk. I had to climb up and down steep stairs + attempt to wash my hair without raising my arm + carry a duffel bag without putting weight on my chest/body + sleep without turning AT ALL. (I had major backaches for 2 months because of this and I’ll never forgive my chest for that).

Also, I did not purchase a return ticket to Singapore as I wanted to make sure I was stable enough to fly. I extended my stay in Penang for a few more days, booked my flight and returned to Singapore. I was living in a rented bedroom back then as well, and my “bed" was pretty much a mattress on the bedroom floor. Meaning which, I struggled to get up from bed every morning. Pretty much took me 20 minutes to ‘angle’ my body to be able to get up. (What’s funny but not exactly funny is that, I’m in a different rental today, with a mattress AND a bed. However, the bed is so low its of the same height as the mattress I had post-op, so that’s another thing.😅)

I don’t think I can go through all that again. 😂 Considering the fact that this time, I will have multiple op sites. And it’s alot more invasive??????

Why I’m asking for donations and how much do I need to raise:

I’ll need some funds to tide me through my recovery phase as I’m living independently/alone. This is the last step I’ve got to take to ‘becoming Jayke’ and it’s one step closer to an end of trans-related discrimination. Also, I will be leaving this campaign open for the entire period of my phalloplasty journey, so donations can be made at any point of time.

I do not want to put an exact figure down and I’m not crowdfunding FOR my surgery as I will take on the responsibility of servicing the medical installments. I am solely crowdfunding for funds to tide through the recovery phase safely.

What happens after your donation?

Upon donation, please put in your email address! I will be getting in touch with you personally.

I will be documenting my journey and in return for your kind donations, you will receive videos (with annotations) of each surgery stage. (This will be a pretty exclusive insight into my journey and I will not be posting these videos on my social media and only you and other donors will be having access to these videos). These videos will include professionally taken shots and self-recorded videos. If you have any inputs or ideas of how I can better document my journey, do let me know! [Onlyfans is out of the question though, well maybe…]

Note: Your access to this mini docu-series is regardless of your donation amount.

Where will the donation proceeds go to?

Donations will be put towards my post-recovery at each stage. I am likely to be hiring a part-time nurse, one that will visit an hour each day to check on my post-op site and change the dressings. I am considering renting an Airbnb for 3-4 days post-discharge for my recovery as well. On top of that, donations will be used to fund any additional medical supplies and put towards my deposit for the second stage surgery (as this will be the major stage, I am likely to be warded in a Class A ward for this, without option to downgrade).

How will I track my medical expenses?

Donations will be tracked and recorded here on this platform and also on a Google excel sheet (updated daily) with receipts and details included. I will be uploading the link here in the next few days.

Can I donate directly to you via Bank Transfer/ PayNow/ PayPal?

Yes! You can email me at [email protected] for the details and my assistant (me) will get back to you by the next working day.

Thank you for reading this lengthy essay-ish post guys! 😊

  • No one should have to have such a difficult recovery process post-op. The care of a patient extends beyond their stay in a hospital. Such invasive surgeries are already emotionally taxing, so it shouldn’t be more physically difficult than it already will be. All the best ✊🏽
