There are several options for traditional students, but it gets harder to find financial help for people like me to go to college.

Due to things that happen during everyone's life sometimes you have to postpone personal dreams and take care of other things that need to be take care of ASAP and that's when time pass by and your desire of become a professional folk just vanished.

In my personal situation I worked really hard to get my high school diploma putting a lot of effort to get good grades and at the same time I worked full time in a job 6 days a week after school and I was going back to home around midnight and then I had to stay up until 3 in the morning doing homework. I wanted to help my mom with my own and personal expenses and I even helped her with rent, groceries, etc. I worked and went to school both full time for 3 years until my graduation date came. I was so proud of myself because one of my dreams and goals came true. I got my high school diploma even when I was working full time and I had great grades with a final GPA of 3.9. Then my next step was to start classes in college and I was so excited to get started, but for some reason I had a bad luck or I should say talked to the wrong people who always told me- going to college is so hard! College is super expensive! You can't make it! You need to earn good money per hour to afford it... and I can keep going on what they said. My main problem was that I got so depressed after all these comments especially some from a person working in the area of higher education. I believe shr could guide me on this new phase but instead I felt like there was no hope to make it to college that I didn't even try to go to a college or other people to ask for help!

It has been 6 years since I graduated from high school, but every day in my heart was the desire to keep going and get higher education till now. I decided that with effort you can make things happen. I know it won't be easy because I have my own family and a baby girl to take care of and I work part time to be able to help my husband to cover home and health expenses and try to save some money for college too, but my heart fills with joy just to think that I can come back and work hard in school to get good grades and get my college degree in Software Engineering.

I know going to college means money and for a nontraditional student like me scholarships are hard to find. So, thinking on how I can find or get more money to cover college expenses I came up with the idea of fundraising money for it and I also tough that if this works I would probably be able to help other mothers like me who want to succeed, be a great example as a hard working parent and take care of their family too.

Finally I just want to thanks all the people who take some of their precious time to read my story. If you're able to help make my dream and other mothers (hopefully) come true I will appreciate it. Anything can help even if is a dollar can become more than just a dollar. I believe every penny counts and again thank you so much and may God bless you and your family also.

  • I never would have earned my degrees without the help of many and I am grateful to this day for the support I had. I'm so excited to have the opportunity to help one of the best students to graduate from our ESL program go on to higher education. Ingrid was one of the very top graduates in her class and did it all in her second language! Join me in making a great investment in her and our community's future.
