Be The Cause – Mongolia Rally for Rangers 2018

Greetings Social Media Friends! Would you consider joining me in making a tax-deducible gift of a new Yamaha off-road motorcycle for a Mongolian Park Ranger?

I am seeking sponsors for $3,500, needed by July 23. At that time I will be joining 14 other rider/donors who will personally deliver 15 new Yamaha motorcycles to the Park Rangers in the Altai Tovan Bogd National Park in far Western Mongolia. Reaching the delivery site near the border with China and Russia will require an 9-day journey over vast roadless terrain. I am hoping to share this adventure with my friends and anyone willing to contribute to this worthy cause. It’s an epic opportunity to show our love across borders in a very unique, tangible, and memorable way for the Mongol Rangers, their families, and for those of us choosing to participate in making this extraordinary gift possible.

The reason for this “mission” is that these rangers are protecting a rare natural resource from spoil by illegal mining and poaching that frequently occur there. Unfortunately, many of the “spoilers” are motorized so the rangers who patrol the more than 6,000 sq km area on foot and horseback are no match for them. The park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site containing tens of thousands of ancient petroglyphs and rock paintings as well as many endangered species including ibex, moose, and eagles. Your gift will help safeguard this area and will bless the ranger and his family, enabling him to more effectively fulfill his daily duty with a tool he could not otherwise hope to afford himself.

Why is Wes going? Why doesn't he just send money?

The opportunity I'm extending to you is to be a blessing to others and to bring worlds closer together. To the ranger and his family, this is a tremendous and otherwise unattainable gift. To the Mongolian people and the global community this gift represents greater stewardship and preservation of endangered natural resources and world heritage artifacts for all to enjoy for generations to come, and finally, for those choosing to join me in making this gift, it is an opportunity to partner in something unique and larger than ourselves.

So why add expense by making this trip? Why not just send money? The answer to this question is really the essence of my request to you. In my view, while sending money is easy and “efficient” from an economic point of view, it is also impersonal and does not allow for unique learning opportunities, unforeseeable blessings or the tremendous perspective that is available to ALL participants (riders, sponsors and recipients) through sharing in such an experience. Building relationships and demonstrating your care and concern across borders make YOU an international ambassador and helps counter unfortunate attitudes to the contrary that have been on the rise in the world recently. The chance to represent our countries in a positive light and show personal attention and care is not optimally done by mail, or by government agencies. This gift made face-to-face, will leave a long-time legacy of goodwill between our people.

Your cash contributions are tax deductible. Receipts for contributions of $25 or more will be made available in August following the delivery of the motorcycles through the Mongol Ecology Center (a US registered 501c3 non-profit).
