Be Like Mike, Honor my Hero for His 10 Year Anniversary

February 20, 2013 marks the ten year anniversary of the day we lost such an incredible individual to a terrible disease.  As friends and family, we have all come so far since my father passed away, and by supporting one another, he must be so proud to see how things have unfolded. Last year, "Like Mike" raised over $8,000, making me quite a proud daughter to know my father has such wonderful and generous friends and family.  These donations were able to qualify a "Like Mike" logo on Relay For Life event t-shirts sported by over 1000 Relay participants.

With this year being such a milestone, I would love to honor him with an even greater contribution in his name, $10,000 for the 10 years he has been missed.  I will divide the donations evenly between my four Relay For Life events to receive logos.  This year, I will also be running the Cap City Half Marathon with Team ACS Endurance in memory of my father, so a portion of "Like Mike" will go toward my participation, which completely funds American Cancer Society research and programs.

Since working with the American Cancer Society for over a year, I see how many lives they touch and prevent others from facing the loss of a son, husband, father, and dear friend to too many of us.  A few examples include setting up online chat networks for friends, spouses, and children of patients to share their up’s and downs, funding research grants that have led to unbelievable medical advances (fortunately some have been with colon cancer!), organizing “Look Good, Feel Better” days for women in communities battling the side effects of chemo to offer complimentary makeovers, and so much more!
