The Bayview Hunters Point YMCA sports program started in the fall of 2006 with eight 8th grade boys. The goal being able to provide a high quality, and accessible youth sports program in the Bayview Hunters Point community. Formerly the All Hallows Catholic school, the building's physical address provided a very unique opportunity to join the Catholic Youth Organization (CYO) athletic league. Through the past 10 seasons, they've been able to serve hundreds of youth, stand as the only YMCA in the league, produce very successful teams for both boys & girls 3rd-12th grades, and revitalized a once historic CYO site in the community.
Though the BVHP YMCA sports program has reached immense success and growth, athletics are still an extremely costly activity that not every child has the privilege to participate in. As students of the Jesuit University of San Francisco School of Management, we are applying the Ignatian pedagogical paradigm to experience, reflect, and act on a service learning project within our community. We have chosen the BVHP YMCA to help them continue to provide the quality of service it has in the previous years. As members of the San Francisco community, it is up to us to provide these children with an opportunity they truly deserve. .
Thank you for your consideration and go Bayview Hunters Point YMCA!
