To most, swimming seems like an inexpensive sport. A costume, cap and pair of goggles and off you go.
Unfortunately this is far from the truth.
Open water technical suits, wet suits and goggles can cost thousands of rands and that is only the start. Training fees, travel and entrance to local qualifying events, national events and training camps ... the list goes on and on.
Selection to international events is what every swimmers strives to achieve with the dream of standing on the podium.
This is unfortunately is not always possible due to financial constraints. Tours are usually self funded and can cost as much as ZAR50 000.00 per swimmer.
For most of our parents, this is out of reach and as a result several of our swimmers who were selected for international events last season we unable to attend due to lack of funding.
Adding to the difficulty is that parents are given very little time to try raise funds as payment is often required within a week.
As parents and passionate supporters of open water swimming, we have embarked on the difficult task of fundraising, in order to avoid the heart breaking reality of having to tell these young swimmers that despite their selection, they are not able to participate at the highest levels of competition
Please donate, no amount is too small or too big :-)
Every cent of funds collected go directly towards our open water swimmers, kit and travel costs.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your consideration.
