Baxter is a 7 year old pembroke welsh corgi who suddenly experience “fainting” spells. After multiple vet visits his heart and lungs was cleared and sent home. After being sent home his “fainting” spells increased in frequency and he was referred to UC Davis for further evaluation. Upon arrival Baxter experiences another “fainting” spell. His blood worked showed that his red blood cell count was low and he was showing signs of anemia. After 4 days in the hospital and many diagnostic tests and a blood transfusion to help provided assisted life care they retrieved a sample of bone marrow and we are currently awaiting the results but it is suspect to be myelofibrosis (Which is terminal but has an unknown life expectancy 2 months- a few years depending on how they respond to treatment therapy). Baxter’s mom drained her savings of $4700.00 in order to provide him the care provided by UC Davis. It is now recommended that he receive another blood transfusion while we wait for the results of his bone marrow test as well as giving him time to respond to treatment, however Baxter’s mom is running low on the financial needs to make this happen. Baxter is currently waiting to have his blood levels rechecked tomorrow. Baxter is well loved by his sister Sheila that he has grown up with and his Dad is currently deployed. Baxter is not giving his mom any signs that he is ready to leave this world yet and even at UC Davis the doctors all commented that they wouldn’t know he was sick except for his “fainting” spells.

Baxter update one

Update posted by Heather Fletcher at 10:46 pm

His red blood cell levels were rechecked this morning after having two more “fainting spells”. He is still holding at 18% (since being discharged) which isn’t great but is a good sign meaning he isn’t destroying them. He is being placed on an immune suppressant along with his steroids in
