Aneurysm is the enlargement of an artery caused by weakness in the arterial wall. Often there are no symptoms, but a ruptured aneurysm can lead to fatal complications
AVM stands for Arteriovenous Malformation. An AVM is a tangle of abnormal and poorly formed blood vessels (arteries and veins). They have a higher rate of bleeding than normal vessels. AVMs can occur anywhere in the body. Brain AVMs are of special concern because of the damage they cause when they bleed. They are VERY RARE and occur in less than 1% of the general population.
His name is Theodore Sam. He is just 13 years old. He's kind to everybody, he's best known for his generosity, a smart and dedicated boy at school, lover of factual and historical artifacts, and a very loving kid to his family. In just a matter of seconds, he became part of that statistics. Please bear with me for a little while and let me explain what happened.
It happened really fast during Valentine's morning, Thursday, at his school. What seemed to be as lightly as a pain in his right eye turned out to be a hemorrhage inside his brain. He was unconscious the moment he arrived at the nearest hospital and his heart rate dropped at 50s. Since resident doctors can't figure out what's happening, they did a CT scan. That's the time we were told he had an aneurysm. ( doctor's initial findings).
If you look into the 1st CT scan result, you can see how fast his brain bled. That's the opaque area on the picture showing the blood coverage in his brain.
Unfortunately his neurosurgeon and neurologists can't find the bleeding vein inside his brain. They mentioned that they will do 3 procedures to fix Theo. And these are the ff:
1. Craniotomy- to drain the blood inside his brain. Afterwards, they will leave the brain open leaving only the skin and gauze as the main protection.
2. CT angiogram or Catheter Angiogram - either of these tests will help the doctors find the bleeding and/or abnormal blood vessel. It will be administered once Theo becomes stable.
3. Returning the skull and rehabilitation
The Craniotomy was a success! They removed 100mL of blood and managed the brain not to swell further. If you'd ask me it is a MIRACLE. As of this writing, he is showing positive signs and recovers really REALLY FAST! (Thank you Lord!)
However, his brain is still bleeding and our hospital bills now have skyrocketed.
With this, I am asking for your kind hearts to help Theodore recover throughout the whole process. It is a very long battle and we need all the help we can get in order for him to survive.
This will be a debt we will forever be grateful.
I pray for you and for your loved ones, that you will not be in the same situation as we are in.
Thank you so much for your time!
Love them harder, hug them tighter, kiss them more. Because tomorrow is always not promised.
