The battle of Shrewsbury medieval weekend is an up and coming living history event that takes place each July.

At present we are planning to develop the festival more each year by expanding our smaller pop-up events and the main festival. This will include a series of education days in schools and to community groups, Battlefield walks, talks and much more.

We are currently planning to create a series of exciting new interactive pop-up education days in Shrewsbury and the surrounding area, also including education days about the battlefield site and its importance to the community and helping connect its past and future with fun and interactive workshops, demonstrations, and talks.

Last year we had more than 300 reenactors not including all the fantastic traders and demonstrators who took part making it a larger event than previous years. This year already we are predicting those numbers to likely double as we have had a lot of interest from a lot of brilliant quality living history demonstrators and reenactors. Hopefully thus making this year’s event better than ever!

Each year we would like to see it grow to help educate the surrounding community and further afield to neighbouring communities.

We are wanting to enable the festival and the history to be enjoyed by all who come along and want to learn about the history of Shrewsbury and celebrate its importance to our collective history. Therefore we aim to continue to make it a free entry event so that families and visitors from all walks of life can enjoy this fantastic opportunity. This will also include any future educational aspects involving the medieval period and the Battlefield 1403.

Moving forward we are looking to create a series of educational hands-on sessions to enable community groups and schools to explore everyday life during the early 15th century and what happened upon the battlefield at edge of Shrewsbury and other significant events leading up to the battle.

We are already working with the Churches conservation trust to create a series of free entry open days which will including living history, hands on talks and demonstrations along with many other activities.

To enable the chance of the festival, educational and activity days to continue to happen for free (to keeping them accessible for all) as they grow, we would like and very much appreciate your support!

We want to help educate people on a historically important part of our nation’s history that influenced how our country was ruled and progressed. Along with a wonderful chance to recreate and demonstrate the medieval period for older and future generations to see, enjoy and be inspired.

If you would like to support us in the future with any aspect or even sponsoring different aspects of the event, please get in touch at [email protected] or visit our Facebook page (1) Battle of Shrewsbury Medieval weekend | Facebook
